  1. Activity: Spoken Treasures Tour Program with Talaysay Tours – Stanley Park

Tour description:  Explore iconic Stanley Park along the seawall with a local Indigenous cultural ambassador-educator.  Local to this region, your guide will lead the class along the seawall, a 1.1 km walk, while sharing the stories, history and lore of Stanley Park and Vancouver – through Indigenous Eyes.  This tour includes indigenous teachings and values regarding water, and how the ocean, the Salish Sea, which provided Indigenous people a rich marine diet.  The program is completed at the Stanley Park Totem Poles with the many stories and interpretations of the totems (story poles) and the Indigenous peoples who carved them.

  • This program shares the Indigenous history of Stanley Park and Vancouver, including the experiences of contact, indigenous – settler relations, and the survival of epidemics
  • Focuses on the Salish Sea as an element that has sustained Indigenous people for millennia
  • Discusses the acute environment issues of our oceans today
  • Explores how relationships between the host tribes Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw, Musqeum and Tsleil-Waututh, the city of Vancouver and our Nation have thrived and evolved through the centuries
  • Stanley Park Totem Poles allows us to show who rich and diverse Indigenous society and culture is in our Province of British Columbia

What to wear/bring: good walking shoes, an umbrella and rain resistant clothing if raining, sun glasses, hats and sunscreen if sunny. Wear layers with the changing seasons.

In planning your land based learning activity with your class, we invite all teachers to inform us of any curriculum connections you would like to meet in our tour program.  Discussion of these curriculum goals require advanced planning.


Our school programs rates (based on 20 or more students):

  1. Spoken Treasures Tour Program – Stanley Park – 1.5 hrs $16 per student plus gst
  1. Custom locations with parks near your school can be accommodated. Any site over 20 km can include additional travel costs. 

Talaysay School Calendar 2018:  September to June.  We do not operate in the month of November. 

How to book our land based programs:  We require a firm date, time and number of participants?  Once this is completed your program will be confirmed as a scheduled tour.  Talaysay Tours will email you a full itinerary and invoice in advance.  Your advanced booking and confirmation allows us to schedule our most experienced guides – educators for your class.  You can also book on-line.  We will provide you a discount code to acquire your group student discount.  The on-line booking system requires credit card payment. 

Talaysay Customer Service and policies:

Our tours and school programs proceed on rainy days.  If weather is extreme with respect to severe rain or wind, we will contact you to re-schedule or cancel without cancellation penalty. 

Medical:  We ask the teachers to inform us in advance if there is any student or participants who requires an epi pen or if there are any participants with injuries or health matters that could affect their ability to experience our tour program in its full capacity. 

Group Cancellation: 7 days or more are required for a refund; we will reimburse less a 20% administration fee.
