Activity Description: Join Dale and Candace, two local friends and historians, who have lived on the Sunshine Coast throughout their lives. Dale is a local historian who grew up in the town of Gibson’s and Candace is an Anthropologist, School teacher who is a Shíshálh member, married into Sḵwx̱wú7mesh community. Dale and Candace are partnering to share a unique online tour and experience with you by co-guiding. Our shared early history as Indigenous and pioneer settlers of this region will be highlighted. The tour will include the oral history, marine technology, and the way of life of the Shíshálh and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, two sister tribes who have intermarried and collaborated for millennia via the Potlatch way of life.
Dale will share the significance of Gospel Rock, and the stories of the first explorers (English and Spanish) and what life was like for the early settlers: George Gibson, the Finns and early farming, Dr. Inglis our first doctor to service the entire Coast without car or road. JS Woodsworth, the Beachcombers and much more.
Format: Both guides will share history. This on-line tour is interactive. We will break after 45 minutes and again 10 minutes before the tour ends to ask questions and share discussion with guests. This tour is not to be missed, we invite you to join us.
