Background: In our society, storytellers were trained from a young age, within a master-apprenticeship program, to be taught the stories and legends of their peoples. Some stories, well over 10,000 words would be memorized verbatim. Other stories could be shared inter-tribally in the feasts, known today as the Potlatch. One tribe could share a part of the story using the entire evening and the next tribe would share the other stage of the story the next evening. All of the tribes would need to be gathered for the story to be complete. Within that process of enriched story and cultural sharing was the unity and security of our Salish peoples. One heart, one mind, one spirit.

We invite you to join us as we share the stories of our ancestors, artists and healers. Our Salish stories told convey our connections to both our ancestors and the unborn, our love for this sacred land, and our hopes for the future. These stories are rooted in a long traditions of oral history and intercultural sharing.
There is a universal saying in our Indigenous Cultures here on Turtle Island. We are the land and the land is us.
